“Homecoming King” with Hasan Minhaj

The Englert Theatre — Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 at 8 p.m.

KRUI and the Englert Theatre had planned on bringing Hasan Minhaj and his one-man comedy show Homecoming King to Iowa City this Friday, Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. but due to professional obligations, the comedian and the theater have rescheduled the event for February 2017.

“Due to his heightened schedule with The Daily Show, Hasan Minhaj’s performance has been rescheduled… Ticket holders have been contacted, but for more information please contact the Englert Box Office at 319-688-2653 or email” said the Englert in a post to their Facebook page.

Minhaj, a correspondent on the The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and contributing storyteller for The Moth, has been featured in The Huffington Post, Gawker and The New York Times. His debut theatrical act, “Homecoming King” enjoyed a sold-up run in 2015 in New York — this will be its first showing in Iowa, tickets are $26.50

The show follows Minhaj’s own coming-of-age story as an Indian-American growing up in the mostly white community of Davis, California. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Homecoming King” explores the pain and humor of adolescents while addressing the unique challenges faced by children of color.

Here’s a great bit with Hasan Minhaj taking on Islamophobia, as a “Senior Religious Correspondent” on “The Daily Show,” enjoy:
