Comedian, UI alum and former ‘SNL’ cast member Brooks Wheelan to perform last-minute show at the Yacht Club

Stand-up comedian and former SNL cast member Brooks Wheelan, an Iowa native, is snowed in after returning to Iowa for the holidays. The good news? The University of Iowa alum announced earlier today on Twitter that — given his travel predicament — he’ll be performing a last-minute comedy show at the Yacht Club tonight at 10 p.m.

Who said good things can’t come from ice storms?

Wheelan, who graduated from the University of Iowa in 2009 and briefly joined SNL for its 39th season in 2013, recently wrapped up his fall “Central America” tour. The comedian has enjoyed a great deal of success over the past two years, despite his departure from SNL (announced by Wheelan with the poetic Tweet, “FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!”).

In addition to appearing on numerous comedy shows and podcasts, such as Getting Doug with High and The Nerdist, Wheelan has been busy collaborating with fellow comedian Kyle Kinane. The two comics recently spent time in Florida filming Random Tropical Paradise, an upcoming comedy starring Joe Pantoliano (Memento, The Matrix), as well as hosting a few surprise comedy shows in the area.

Tonight’s show at the Yacht Club (which will replace the regularly scheduled Catacombs of Comedy show hosted by local comedian Tom Garland) will also include a short guest spot from stand-up comedian and Little Village contributor Arish Singh.
