Comedian-storyteller Mike Birbiglia is bringing his award-winning brand of storytelling to the Englert Theatre on Tuesday as part of his “Thank God For Jokes” tour.

Birbiglia has distinguished himself from other comics by focusing less on witty jokes or crude humor, and instead providing humorous, awkward, and often self-deprecating anecdotes about himself. He is best known for directing, writing and starring in Sleepwalk With Me — a 2008 autobiographical Broadway show that he has since adapted to a stand-up routine, comedy album and feature film, which won the Best of NEXT Audience Award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

Additionally, Birbigliaโ€™s 2008 comedy special What I Should Have Said Was Nothing and 2013โ€™s My Girlfriendโ€™s Boyfriend were nominated for best specials of the year at the American Comedy Awards. In addition to the usual stand-up comedy acts, Birbiglia has been a regular contributor to WBEZ’s much-loved This American Life program, as well as NPRโ€™s Wait Wait…Donโ€™t Tell Me!

The show starts at 7 p.m. sharp, and be sure to get there on time. Birbiglia tends to open his show by making fun of the “laties” (those who take their seats after he begins). Tickets are $39 and still available.
