The prolific Ian Svenonius returns to Iowa City this weekend — he’ll be taking the stage with his current musical project Chain & the Gang, Sunday at 10 p.m. at the Trumpet Blossom Cafe. Svenonius previously served as the Mission Creek Festival’s artist-in-residence.

Is there a cover?

Yes. $8, but doesn’t it feel good to support the arts?

I should know who Ian Svenonius is right?

Absolutely. Svenonius has served as the frontman for Washington D.C. based punk bands Nation of Ulysses, The Make-up, Weird War and now Chain & the Gang. Ever the polymath, the artist has also produced work as a journalist and essayist, publishing his collections of essays The Psychic Soviet in 2006 and Censorship Now in 2015. Sunday you can expect an evening of self-aware Marxist punk from Chain & the Gang.

Cool, who’s opening?

Sunday’s show will also feature the dreamy retro-pop of Secret Colours (they have been known to play the melodica live) and Iowa City’s very own Brand Damage will be on the bill. Jarrett Mitchell and Brendan Spengler (Brand Damage) roll-out another installment of their music and variety act, raffling off Cobra Verde and Wake Up Iowa City treasures with proceeds benefiting Girls Rock Iowa City.

I could google this but…

This is an all-ages show, but do bring your ID if you plan on enjoying one of the Blossom’s killer drinks. Doors are at 8:00 p.m. with the music to commence at 8:30 p.m. And if this is your first time venturing to Trumpet Blossom for a show, the venue is located at 310 E. Prentiss Street.

But will there be snacks?

Oh there will be snacks.
