A concert and fundraiser in honor of Brian Cretzmeyer, local musician and founder of the IC band Gglitch who died suddenly in 2010 from cancer, will be held at the Weatherdance Fountain Stage in downtown Iowa City from 1-8 p.m. this Saturday.

In the past, Brian Fest has been held at the Yacht Club. This year, however, Brian’s brother Matt Cretzmeyer said, “We’re getting better at what we do so we’re trying to make the show a little better and reach a larger audience.”

In 2013, Brian’s friends and family created a trust in his honor to help bring music lessons to young people.

Donations from the event will go toward the Brian Cretzmeyer Trust for Young Musicians, which supports the Broadway After School Program Piano Club, the Pre-College Piano Conservatory at the University of Iowa School of Music and the Preucil School of Music.

“The idea is to get bigger and better as the trust continues to grow,” Matt said.

Matt plays guitar in a band in Minneapolis and will play with former members of Brian’s band The Gglitch on Saturday.

Other bandmates will perform in groups and play solo sets, along with performances by Dave Zollo and The Uniphonics.
