Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is hitting Iowa hard this weekend.
The Vermont Senator will make at least eight campaign stops in cities across the Hawkeye state this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, hoping to garner favor with Iowans who, at this stage, seem to have set their hopes on Hillary Clinton. Recent polls in Iowa show Sanders trailing the former Secretary of State by quite a margin, with Clinton holding a 21 point lead over Sanders according to a CNN/ORC poll released this week (margin of error: plus or minus 4.5 percent).
Though his three-day campaign sprint begins tonight in Clear Lake, Iowa, Sanders will eventually make his way to Iowa City on Saturday to attend the opening of his Iowa City field headquarters on 702 S. Gilbert St. at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Sanders will travel to Marion to attend another field headquarters opening at 724 11th St. at 10:30 a.m.
Granted, the presidential hopeful won’t be alone in his Iowa weekend foray, with the Iowa State Fair in full swing, attracting upwards of one million attendees. Sanders is one of several candidates set to speak at the Des Moines Register‘s State Fair Soapbox this weekend (along with Rick Santorum, Ben Carson and Jeb Bush). Clinton is also expected to make an appearance at the Iowa State Fair this Saturday.
