Jerry Joseph and The Jackmormons with Sounds Del Mar
Gabe’s — Wednesday, June 3 at 9 p.m.
Known for both his passion towards spiritual and political issues, as well as with his strong grasp of songwriting, Jerry Joseph is a musical force backed by The Jackmormons. Tonight, they bring their rock and roll soul music to Gabe’s.
Jerry Joseph, who started out in the reggae-rock band Little Women, has been playing with his band for two decades. And although they’ve gathered quite a fanbase, the band has never quite had their “big break.” While frustrating, Joseph acknowledges his musical freedom due to the lack of brand or style the audience expects. In return, their live shows are full of heart and soul.
Last year, the group released Singing in the Rain, a seven-song album Joseph explains as less of a new body of work and more a compilation of B-side songs that had never made it to the recording studio. In a cohesive mixture of soulful vocals, rock and roll vibes, ear-catching horns and meaningful lyrics, the years playing together has created an ease to the band’s sound.
Joining Jerry Joseph and The Jackmormons is Austin-based band Sounds Del Mar, which clusters 1970s guitar riffs with synthy vibes from the ‘90s for music with an overall classic rock feel that isn’t stale at all. With the February release of their debut album, Miami Vice’n, the show will likely be fresh and super high-energy.
