Actor Jeffrey Tambor, best known for his role as George Bluth Sr. (and his stoner twin brother) in the oft-quoted comedy series Arrested Development, will speak in Iowa City this Thursday as part of the UI’s fall semester lecture series.

The lecture, titled “Performing Your Life,” starts at 8 p.m. at the Iowa Memorial Union’s Main Lounge. The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 7:15 p.m.

According to the University of Iowa Lecture Committee:

Tambor’s presentations are models after himself: larger than life. He brings audiences across the country a new kind of lecture, one they have never seen before. They are interactive, humorous, real, and most importantly, relatable. He has the ability unlike any other speaker to share anecdotes from his decades in front of the camera, inspire businesses to find creative solutions and strategies, delve into his family’s struggle with mental health issues, reflect on his role as a father of four young children, and offer wisdom learned from his Jewish upbringing.

Tambor has received two Emmy Award nominations for his work with Arrested Development, in addition to receiving four nominations for his role as Hank Kingsley in the HBO comedy series The Larry Sanders Show, which aired from 1992 to 1998. As an active performer for more than four decades, Tambor is also an accomplished voice actor and veteran of Broadway.
