Singer-songwriter David Bromberg brings his quick-witted blend of folk and blues Americana to the Englert Theatre this Friday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.
Over the past four decades, Bromberg has accompanied numerous iconic musicians including Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Jerry Garcia and Jerry Jeff Walker.
Early in his career, Bromberg was considered a first-call “hired gun” guitarist, allowing him to collaborate on a number of influential albums, including Bob Dylan’s New Morning, Self Portrait and Dylan. He also co-wrote the song “The Holdup” with Beatle George Harrison.
Bromberg’s material constitutes a mix of bluegrass, rock and roll and country — a style largely imparted by his discovery of Pete Seeger at an early age, he says. Bromberg has gained a reputation for his humorous-yet-thoughtful lyrics and ability to play rhythm and lead guitar simultaneously.
More recently, Bromberg’s album Try Me One More Time (2007) was nominated for a Grammy in 2008 for Best Traditional Folk Album.
He currently lives in Wilmington, Delaware, where he operates a violin sale and repair shop with his wife, Nancy Josephson.
