Mipso w/ The Mayflies
The Mill — Friday, Feb 27 at 9 p.m.
Bluegrass-inspired band Mipso will perform their soulful music at the Mill this Friday for a night of good, solid fun. The quartet is easily mistaken as a solely bluegrass band; however, their sound has developed into a complex mix of roots music that can only be describe as Mispo-esque.
Over a few short years, the band has expanded upon their loyal following in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. They’ve been touring internationally, releasing two full-length albums in the process. Mipso’s 2013 album, Dark Holler Pop, is a “bluegrassified” mix of banjo, mandolin, bass and fiddle in which their vocal harmonies play up their sound just as much as the mastery of their instruments. The sophomore release was produced by good friend and member of Mandolin Orange, Andrew Marlin. The band takes pride in the collaborative atmosphere of the North Carolina music scene, saying it’s more about collaboration than competition. Mipso recently finished up recording their third album and expect their fine-tuned work as a quartet to show off their melodic abilities.
Joining Mipso will be Iowa City band The Mayflies, who will be performing an acoustic set of their improvisational jam-band songs, keeping the roots music atmosphere going all night.
