Get a taste of something new this evening at Alton Brown’s culinary variety show. This evening, Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids will stage Alton Brown Live! The Edible Inevitable Tour, a multi-media, multi-genre culinary variety show starring the famed food entrepreneur himself.

Brown may be best known as the host of Food Network’s long-running, James Beard-nominated, cooking/science show Good Eats. In addition to hosting the show from 1998 to 2012, Brown has written seven books — three of which were New York Times best seller list — and hosted several other food-related television programs, most recently Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen, a competitive cooking show.

The Edible Inevitable Tour will put Brown’s particular brand of science-based cooking on display for audiences. But don’t expect just any live-audience cooking demonstration; the show includes skits, puppets, comedy and live music by Brown himself.

“What I basically did was put together … all these things I wanted to do, that I couldn’t do on TV,” said Brown in an interview with the blog I Heart Food.

There will be two elaborate, experimental food demonstrations with audience volunteers, all designed to be family-friendly. Ponchos will be provided (and most likely necessary) for those seated in the first few rows.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $48 – $63 and can be purchased online or at the Paramount Theater Box Office.
