All things apple takeover Amana

Apfelfest

Amana Colonies — Saturday, Sept. 26 at 10 a.m.

This Saturday, the Amana Colonies will host Apfelfest, an aptly named harvest festival that celebrates all things apple. The family friendly celebration begins at 10 a.m. and spans the entirety of the seven villages that make up the Amana Colonies. There will be apple-themed activities for all ages and specialty foods from local shops and restaurants.

Activities include apple cider pressing, making a dried apple wreath, story-telling, live music and more.

Local shops are readying their apple-themed wares, and restaurants are getting creative. Offerings will include apple jam, apple salsa, apple sangria, apple cupcake, apple dumplings, apple pork loin, apple bread, apple pizza. These are, of course, in addition to the classic apple-fare we all know and love.

Topping off the festival, the Amana Heritage Society will host a Harvest Dinner, Silent Auction and Raffle at the Church Museum in the village of Homestead at 7 p.m. Dinner or raffle tickets can be pre-purchased by calling 319-622-3567. A more extensive schedule is available online.
