While many people will gather with their loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow, not everyone has plans to spend day eating turkey and stuffing. For those without celebration plans, without resources to hold a Thanksgiving dinner or looking to give back on a day known for consumption, here are a few community events and volunteer opportunities to celebrate the holiday of giving.

Community Thanksgiving dinners

River Community Church, Iowa City

River Community Church (3001 Muscatine Ave.) has been hosting their free Thanksgiving dinner for over 30 years. The traditional dinner includes turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pie and is open to everyone. Guests are welcome to come by any time between 12 and 5 p.m.
