FRIDAY

Sarah Jarosz and Darrell Scott | The corner of Iowa and Dubuque Street | 7:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m. | Free

This isn’t some ordinary Iowa City weekend; It’s an Iowa Art’s Festival weekend! Kick the weekend off right by coming down to the main stage to enjoy the music of Sarah Jarosz and Darrell Scott. While you’re at it, why not pick up a snack from one of the many food vendors who will be out in full force.

Beaker Brothers | Blue Moose Tap House | 9:00 p.m. | $5

Classic rock cover band Beaker Brothers will be saying hello to the Blue Moose Tap House on Friday. This event will be quite the contrast from the musical stylings of Darrell Scott, but then again, that’s why we’re listing it! if Darrell Scott doesn’t tempt you (he should), pay Beaker Brothers a visit. Who doesn’t like to indulge in a little classic rock every now and again?

SATURDAY

Iowa City Arts Fest | Downtown Iowa City | 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. | Free

Oy vey, where to start? Get down to the Pedestrian Mall early for the Art Fair and Culinary Row–a huge mix of local food vendors and artists–that will keep you satisfied until 3:00 p.m.. Meanwhile, the main stage has a full lineup planned.

Main Stage Schedule:

12:00 p.m. – Dustin Busch
1:30 p.m. – Radoslav Lorkovic
3:00 p.m. – The Pines
4:30 p.m. – Jeffrey Foucault
7:00 p.m. – The Honeydogs
9:00 p.m. – Sonny Landreth

Go on, make a day of it! Bring the kids, too. There will be plenty of activities to keep the young ones occupied, including a “Global Village” that will allow children ‘visit’ a dozen countries right in downtown Iowa City. Think Disney World’s Epcot Center, only better–because it’s in Iowa City, of course.

SUNDAY

Children’s Day | Downtown Iowa City | 12:00 p.m. | Free

Produced by the Iowa City Public Library and Sponsored by Little Village Magazine and Hill’s Bank, Children’s Day will offer well over a dozen different free activities to give your kids a spectacular Sunday. The Summer of the Arts website notes that children will be able to have their faces painted, make music, participate in “worm wrangling” and a plenty of other activities, so bring them down and have some fun! There will still be plenty of music throughout Sunday–on the family stage and elsewhere–to keep the adults entertained.

The Icarus Account, Avian Sunrise | Gabe’s | 6:30 p.m. | $5

Close out your weekend with a healthy dose of piano-based rock with The Icarus Account and Avian Sunrise at Gabe’s. Also performing will be Joel Bickford and Jimmy Riches. Quite the weekend to be in Iowa City, no?
