The Green Room: Peter Aguero and Sara Peters
Englert Theatre — Monday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.

The Green Room returns on Monday at 7 p.m., with storytellers Peter Aguero and Sara Peters. Both will be familiar to listeners of The Moth Radio Hour, a public radio show focused on stories and the art of storytelling.
Aguero, a frequent host of Moth shows, is an instructor for the MothSHOP Community Education Program and a Moth GrandSLAM champion. In addition to being a storyteller, Peters is a journalist, covering cybersecurity and sports.
Aguero and Peters share more than just a love of storiesโthey are married. Aguero describes Peters as his โlong-suffering (and very beautiful) wife,โ and Peters describes him as her โridiculous husband.โ
Along with its featured speakers, each week the Green Room highlights a nonprofit doing important work in the Iowa City area. On Sept. 17, the nonprofit will be the Iowa Harm Reduction Coalition (IHRC). The coalition fights โfor health equity in Iowa, especially for people who use drugs,โ IHRC board member Nicole Novak explained to Little Village. โWe do this through education, advocacy and direct drug-user health services.โ
Aguero and Peters created a writing prompt for the Green Room’s โcommunity homework assignment.โ
Our culture puts so much stock in the idea of “never giving up,” but some situations cannot be conquered. Sometimes “giving in” does not mean “giving up.” What difficult parts of your life could you learn to accept with grace and kindness? How would this action free up your soul to work on things you can actually change?
Anyone wanting to share their answer to these questions will be able to turn in their homework to Green Room coordinators on Monday evening.
This will be the second of six Green Room events at the Englert Theatre, all of which are free and open to the public.
