The Makers Loft opened its new retail location on the Ped Mall Thursday evening, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony organized by the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce. “The Makers Loft, at its core, is an effort to make local goods, local art more accessible to more people,” Simeon Talley, who co-owns The Makers Loft with Veronica Tessler, told Little Village after the ribbon was cut.

RADinc.’s Halloween party will benefit the Rape Victim Advocacy Program
This Halloween, no matter what your costume, you can be a superhero by partying at RADinc. in support of the Rape Victim Advocacy Program (RVAP). A $5 donation gets you access to the event, which kicks off fairly early in the evening at 8 p.m., as well as a drink (attendees are also welcome to bring their own drinks).
Alphabet City fills RADinc with graffiti art
A one-week show of Midwest graffiti artists entitled “Alphabet City — Style Reading” will be at RADinc (123 E. Washington St) this week. It’s a temporary show that includes a collaborative mural by five artists: Mike Stenerson, Gary White, Kenny Morgan, Brian Schultz and Gage Cox.

Jordan Bleau is no stranger to Iowa City. The Minneapolis-based musician and No Problem Records co-founder made the rounds at local bars and DIY venues with the now defunct fuzz-pop outfit Frankie Teardrop. Bleau returns Saturday on the heels of the release of ‘Life of Glass,’ the debut EP from his new project Cheap Fantasy.
‘EatChewAlive’ art exhibit takes over RADinc. for the month of July
‘EatChewAlive’ is visual artist John Schlue’s debut exhibition in Iowa City — some 14 years after he graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in studio art. The opening reception will be held at RADinc on Sunday, July 2 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the exhibition will be up at the downtown storefront gallery until Tuesday, July 25.

Center for Afrofuturist Studies seeking Kickstarter funding for next season
The Center for Afrofuturist Studies is a little more than halfway (as of publishing) to its goal of raising $4,000 through Kickstarter to support the next round of artist residencies with an all-or-nothing campaign that ends June 22.
Graffiti-inspired exhibition, ‘Wastedland 2,’ features the post-apocalyptic at RADinc.
Director and guerilla artist Andrew H. Shirley is bringing his film, Wastedland 2 (2016), and a traveling exhibit of structures from the film, to RADinc. for an “immersive” experience Friday, June 2, from 8-11 p.m., with late-night hangs following. There will be two screenings of the film — at 8:30 and 10 p.m. — as well as performances by local soundscape artists Chaircrusher, Houzatosis, Mustard in Law and True Commando.
