Minneapolis queercore four piece Contentious played along side Iowa City’s own political punks Death Dude and the mighty grindcore purveyors Closet Witch. The beer garden at Gabe’s is a great place for a show. There are a few downfalls to playing outside, though, weather being one of them: A bit of rain pushed back Dryad’s set, but after a bit a patience and shuffling some gear they played a set full of black metal rippers.

The Iowa City Downtown District hosted a massive block party Saturday night that took over the pedestrian mall and several streets. Huge crowds turned out to see live music, play games and sand volleyball, dance at a silent disco and catch fashion from local designers and boutiques at the Fashion 500.
