Creator of The Trevor Project brings LGBT teen storytelling workshop to Iowa City
The Future Perfect Project, co-founded by Lacesne and performance artist Ryan Amador, brings LGBTQ high school students together to tell stories and express themselves through original writing, performances and musical compositions. Iowa City will have its own two-day Future Perfect Project workshop from 1-4 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday.

Livestream: The Green Room presents Lisa Lucas on Monday, Sept. 25
At the Englert, on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m., Lisa Lucas will anchor a night that focuses on literature and its unique role in shaping homes that wonder about the mysterious and tolerate differences. As an added bonus, Kiese Laymon will provide a reading before her lecture. Mallory Hellman, director of the Iowa Youth Writing Project, will kick the evening off.

Little Village Drawing Board: IYWP History Hunt Camp (video)
Local children’s author Delia Ray led 5th and 6th graders in the Iowa Youth Writing Project’s HiSTORY Hunt! camp as they explored the intersection of science and writing. The camp was offered in conjunction with the Iowa City Public Library as part of a series of free, summer, writing programs.

Grab a slice to support the Iowa Youth Writing Project
Everyone is invited to venture out into the spring weather at Geyer’s Oven west of Iowa City for an evening of pizza in support of the Iowa Youth Writing Project. The all-you-can-eat pizza picnic starts at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow and is the first of three events called “Growing Voices” that aim to bring the community together to support the nonprofit’s mission of “growing children’s voices.”
