Last October, Gov. Kim Reynolds made news by calling Iowa liberals “unhinged” at her Harvest Festival campaign fundraiser. For this year Harvest Festival, Reynolds has invited a special guest who is extremely familiar with that sort of intemperate speech: Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

New poll shows Hubbell ahead of Reynolds, but just barely
A new statewide poll found Democrat Fred Hubbell leading incumbent Kim Reynolds in the race for governor. But that lead was small enough to fall within the margin of error of the poll conducted by Selzer & Co. for the Des Moines Register and Mediacom. In the poll published on Saturday, 43 percent of likely voters said they would vote for Hubbell, while 41 percent backed Reynolds. Libertarian candidate Jake Porter was the choice of 7 percent, and 9 percent were undecided. According to the polling company, the survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percent.

The Iowa City Latino Festival will light up Linn Street on Sunday
The Iowa City Latino Festival will transform a block of downtown Linn Street with music, dancing, kid’s activities and a wide variety of authentic Latino cuisine on Sunday, from noon to 8 p.m. There will also be instruction in traditional dances for those interested in learning.

The first poll in the 2018 Iowa governor’s race shows Democrat Fred Hubbell leading Republican incumbent Gov. Kim Reynolds. On Monday, Emerson College released polling data on the governor’s race, the races in all four Iowa Congressional districts and Iowan’s views of President Trump.

Gov. Reynolds makes false claim about her statement on the death of Mollie Tibbetts
Following last week’s arrest of an undocumented Mexican immigrant for the murder of University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts, Gov. Kim Reynolds issued a statement, which included the line, “We are angry that a broken immigration system allowed a predator like this to live in our community.” On Thursday, Reynolds was asked about her statement, and she replied, “I didn’t immediately start talking about immigration.”
