The annual two-week phenomenon that is the Iowa State Fair is well-known for its amply supply of pigs, people, meals on sticks and, once every four years, its parade of presidential candidates. Livestock gets judged in the various barns at the fairgrounds, and candidates get judged at the Des Moines Register’s Political Soapbox

‘Anyway, my time is up’: LV watches night two of #DemDebates
Another night, another ten Democratic presidential candidates, another televised debate. The setting was the same (the Arsht Center in Miami), the moderators were the same (a five-person parade of NBC and MSNBC on-air personalities) and for Little Village, the Slack channel was the same.

Footnotes on the 2020 Caucus: LV watches the first night of #DemDebates
There were 10 candidates on the stage of the Arsht Center in Miami on Wednesday night, making it the largest debate in a Democratic presidential primary. At least, until Thursday night, when another 10 candidates will take the stage. Members of the Little Village staff decided to watch the debate “together,” via our office Slack.

This year’s Iowa Democratic Party Hall of Fame (HoF) celebration was a record-setting event. More presidential candidates attended and spoke to the assembled party activists and elected officials than any previous year. In part, that’s because there are more candidates this year than ever — 23 at last count — but it’s also an indication of Iowa’s power.
