A small crowd gathered for the unveiling of a big mural in downtown Cedar Rapids on Monday evening. Murals and More, which is steadily creating the Cedar Rapids Mural Trail, dedicated the organization’s first mural of 2017 on the east side of the skywalk on Third Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues.
Protesters, Trump supporters face off outside of Trump’s Cedar Rapids rally
In the hours leading up to President Donald Trump’s Cedar Rapids rally, protesters and Trump supporters stood in the rain on separate sides of the street. One side held aloft posters and chanted — “Dump Trump” and “Love Trumps Hate.” The other side sported “Make America Great Again” hats and occasionally shouted slogans of their own, including the ever popular “USA, USA.”
The Cedar Rapids Public Library wins the nation’s highest honor for museums and libraries
Out of over 100,000 public libraries in the United States, the Cedar Rapids Public Library is in the top of its class. The Cedar Rapids Public Library has been awarded the 2017 National Medal for Museum and Library Service and shares this honor with only four other libraries and five museums across the country.
Planned Parenthood and Raygun raise the B.A.R. with a packed house
Mike Draper, founder and CEO of Raygun, along with Suzanna de Baca, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, teamed up to pull off the largest Planned Parenthood events in Eastern Iowa. The mixer, hosted on Wednesday, May 10, by Draper at Raygun’s Cedar Rapids location, attracted more than 200 intergenerational Planned Parenthood supporters and women’s rights advocates.
Jerime Mitchell and wife sue city of Cedar Rapids, officer
Jerime “Danky” Mitchell of Cedar Rapids, who was shot during a traffic stop Nov 1, 2016 and consequently paralyzed from the neck down, and his wife Bracken filed a lawsuit against Officer Lucas Jones and the City of Cedar Rapids Feb. 24. A grand jury previously decided not to indict Jones.
