Planned Parenthood and Raygun raise the B.A.R. with a packed house
Mike Draper, founder and CEO of Raygun, along with Suzanna de Baca, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, teamed up to pull off the largest Planned Parenthood events in Eastern Iowa. The mixer, hosted on Wednesday, May 10, by Draper at Raygun’s Cedar Rapids location, attracted more than 200 intergenerational Planned Parenthood supporters and women’s rights advocates.

Mother Lovers Ride takes bicyclists on a gastronomical tour of Cedar Rapids May 14
On Sunday, May 14, RadTour LLC will host the Cedar Rapids RadTour Bike Ride (formerly known as Culinary Ride), a 52-mile bicycle tour and celebration of farms, food and fermentation.

Lindwall, Stewart take flight as Peter and Wendy in Theatre Cedar Rapids’ Peter Pan
The fairy dust does its job in the Theatre Cedar Rapids production of the musical version of ‘Peter Pan.’ Under the direction of Leslie Charipar, with musical direction by Benjamin Lee Schmidt, and choreography by Alvon Reed, the cast takes flight for a fun-filled romp in Neverland. My soon-to-be 12-year-old daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the May 6 performance.

St. Patrick’s and St. Joseph’s Day parades fill the streets of Cedar Rapids this weekend
Cedar Rapidians take to the streets this week for their annual St.Patrick’s and St. Joseph’s day parades. Wear green on Friday and red on Saturday (and maybe a jacket this year), and take a break to enjoy some simple pleasures and learn something new about Irish and Czech culture.

Joni Ernst to visit Cedar Rapids for town hall meeting
Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) will host an official town hall meeting Friday, March 17 at Coe College in Cedar Rapids. The 1,100-seat Sinclair Auditorium will be open at noon for the public to engage with the freshman Senator. The event is a part of her yearly tour of all of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Cedar Rapids Public Library hosts community cultural expo
The Cedar Rapids Public Library joins forces with the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission to present a free day of cultural exploration at the library on Saturday, March 18. The event runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Speakers, performances, workshops and even food trucks will be there in abundance to celebrate the diverse cultures that Cedar Rapids has to offer.

Obsidian Sword and Third Base honor the Gospel of Doom, the Gospel of Brew
Iowa City’s archdruids of doom metal, Obsidian Sword, will celebrate the release of the second batch of its namesake IPA from Third Base Brewery on Sunday, March 19 at Otis’ Tailgators Sports Bar in Cedar Rapids. Long-time defenders of doom and Iowa powerhouse, Aseethe, who just released their new album Hopes of Failure on Chicago label Thrill Jockey, will support the show alongside Cedar Falls’ weedians, Megapunch.
