It’s the middle of August, which means humid days, college students scrambling to move in, and as this edition of the Weekender proves, plenty of quality events throughout Iowa. The Moline-based shoegaze band The House Flies celebrates their new album with a show at the Raccoon Motel. A full lineup of performers is slated to perform at a benefit for Palestine at the Englert Theatre. If you’re in the mood for drinks and Iowa history, the Putnam Museum will feature UI professor and Davenport native Gates Thomas on “Davenport’s Twisted History” as part of its History on Tap lecture series on Thursday night.
