It being Halloween and all, today’s Weekender is going all-in on the frights, haunts and jump scares. For classic festivities tonight, check out the next-level Halloween neighborhood gathering in Des Moines’ Sherman Hill. (Expect a full-size pirate ship, live performances of “Thriller” and local haunt enthusiasts going all-out). For horror film buffs, The Last Picture House in Davenport is screening a double feature of the first two Halloween flicks on their rooftop screen. And to help you cope with the spine-tingling possibilities come Tuesday, check out the “community camaraderie and election catharsis” event at PS1 in Iowa City, or the ongoing “It’s Fine. Everything is Fine” exhibit at the Rock Island Gallery at QC arts, which hosts work from 45 artists themed after the infamous phrase. Let’s hope things are less scary post-election.
