Black Hawk County voters who want to cast an early ballot in the Nov. 5 election can do so by going to the conference room in the basement of the Black Hawk County Courthouse in Waterloo (316 E 5th St) on any weekday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. On Monday, Oct. 21, and Friday, Nov. 1, the early voting site will stay open an extra half-hour, closing at 5 p.m. The conference room will also be open for early voting on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Early voting ends at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4. 

The Black Hawk County Auditor’s Office will also have four satellite locations for early voting. 

• Maucker Union on the UNI Campus (1015 Maucker Rd, Cedar Falls) — Wednesday, Oct. 16 through Friday, Oct. 18, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Diamond Event Center (5307 Caraway Ln, Cedar Falls) — Tuesday, Oct. 22, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Cedar Valley Sportsplex (300 Jefferson St, Waterloo) — Wednesday, Oct. 23, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Friendship Village (600 Park Ln, Waterloo) — Thursday, October 24, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Since 2017, it has been necessary to produce a state-approved form of ID to exercise your right to vote in Iowa. The following forms of ID are considered acceptable for both voting and registering to vote. 

• Iowa Voter Identification Card

• Iowa Driver’s License

• Iowa Non-Operator ID

• U.S. Military ID or Veteran ID

• U.S. Passport

• Tribal ID Card/Document

If you have moved since the last time you voted, and your ID does not have your current address, you will need to provide proof of your current residence. According to the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office, the following forms of proof of residence are acceptable.

• Residential lease

• Utility bill, including a cell phone bill

• Bank statement

• Paycheck

• Government check

• Other government document

• Property tax statement

Black Hawk residents who need to register to vote and want to cast an early ballot, must register before 5 p.m. on Monday. After that, they will need to wait until Election Day — Tuesday, Nov. 5 — when same-day registration will be available. 

Voters who prefer to vote by mail still have a few days to request a mail-in absentee ballot. A completed copy of a ballot request form must be received in the county auditor’s office by 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21. To be considered valid, a mail-in ballot must be received in the county auditor’s office by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5.
