After 15 months at NewBo City Market, an artist-owned small business focused on supporting the local arts community has moved to a new, larger location in Cedar Rapids. Tree of Liminality plans on developing and offering community programming, art classes, poetry readings, exhibitions and more at their new location at 1301 3rd St SE, a historic site known as the “Heart House.”
They’ll be working with longtime collaborative partners at the nonprofit Farmhouse Art Collective to develop community programming for the space. (The first exhibition already installed being “Tree Tree Tree: The Iowa Oak Project” by Jacob & Rebecca Lesan and friends.)
Owner and operator Missa Coffman describes Tree of Liminality as, “a place for that transformation to happen — a multifaceted art space that offers creative goods, services, events, and opportunities.”
In addition to these offerings, Tree of Liminality also aims to assist local artists in their own creative endeavors.
“Missa and her partner Marios are available to assist at any stage of a creative project,” organizers promise. “It could be sparking an idea, learning a new skill, talking about work-in-progress, or putting on the finishing touches. As educators and lifelong artists, they’re equipped to help with photo editing and printing, custom framing, book printing and binding, and realizing everything from custom diamond dot patterns to haiku on toast.”
Tree of Liminality will be celebrating their grand opening on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a reception of art, music, poetry, treats plus new experiences provided by Farmhouse Art Collective.
Their hours of operation are Thursday through Saturday from 12 to 8 p.m. and Sunday 12 to 4 p.m., or by appointment.
You can find out more about their upcoming events and opportunities on Facebook and Instagram.
