A Rock Island pottery studio and gallery space is celebrating their one-year anniversary in their current location, 3913 14th Ave. The ARTery, which prides itself on showcasing work from local artists, was co-founded by artists Jenna Isbell, Tara Malnar and the recently announced Rock Island Citizen of the Year, Carolyn Krueger. Krueger received the recognition under the “Artist or Creator” category.

“The ARTery was the first gallery in the area with the no-commission, rent-based business model,” Krueger told the Downtown Rock Island Alliance, reflecting on their debut in February 2009. “Iโ€™ve seen many galleries suffer during months of low sales that try to pay their bills based on taking a commission from sales. Most artists appreciate the steady rates (which are very affordable) and patrons love the fact that their money is going right to the creator of the art they purchase.”

The event description for the anniversary event promises, “Weโ€™ll be popping some bubbly, eating some tasty cupcakes, and giving out lots of hugs!”

The event doubles as the closing reception for artist Sam McFarlandโ€™s watercolor exhibit, โ€œFiction Book Covers For Animal Authors.”
