Little Village Des Moines

Bringing a 20-year tradition of award-winning Iowa news and culture journalism to Des Moines with a new monthly magazine, launching Spring 2022.

Little Village has provided Eastern Iowa with free, independent news, arts and culture coverage since its founding in Iowa City in 2001. Well-known for its intelligent, accessible and visually appealing print magazine, and with an online readership far beyond the state’s borders, Little Village is Iowa’s leading cultural publication—a refreshing, alternative voice for the region that drives engagement with Iowa arts, culture and government like no other publication can.

The new monthly Central Iowa edition will create a cultural connection point for the Des Moines area, giving rise to the next generation of voices that push the culture and politics of the region forward.

“I am a cultural lightweight. So many of Iowa’s cultural attractions are just background in my life. But LV—and especially the LV email newsletter—provide my Eastern Iowa life with the flavor I love. Just knowing what is going on gives me pleasure and pride about living here. Your incisive journalism is also a spicy alternative to the sometimes-blandness of everyday life. Thanks for being here.” —David

“Little Village is my go to news source! Great local reporting on local politics, nonprofits, arts and culture and issues, plus great comics, events listings and features. This publication has journalistic integrity, variety, and helps me understand the community I live in and the people that make up this area. It’s free everywhere, but I choose to donate $10/month to have it delivered, because I don’t ever want to miss an issue and I want to support this publication and help be a part of making sure they have the funds they need to give us the news and reporting we need.” —Katie
