Bloated Kat Records’ Bloated Saturday returns to Gabe’s
For the second year in a row Bloated Kat Records is hosting Bloated Saturday 2 at Gabe’s this weekend, Aug. 25-26. Like the first Bloated Saturday the sequel will feature over 30 bands, this time split between Friday (starting at 5 p.m.) and Saturday (starting at 4 p.m.) nights instead of one marathon show.

Minneapolis queercore four piece Contentious played along side Iowa City’s own political punks Death Dude and the mighty grindcore purveyors Closet Witch. The University of Iowa celebrated the opening of its newest residence hall, the Elizabeth Catlett Residence Hall, with a ceremony and tours on Friday. The 12-story building along the Iowa River will house about 1,049 students and is the largest dorm on campus.

The beer garden at Gabe’s is a great place for a show. There are a few downfalls to playing outside, though, weather being one of them: A bit of rain pushed back Dryad’s set, but after a bit a patience and shuffling some gear they played a set full of black metal rippers.
Bogusman to rock Gabe’s Thursday night
Bogusman’s summer tour brings them to Gabe’s on Thursday night with the show kicking off at 10 p.m. downstairs. Hailing from Lincoln, Nebraska Bogusman play self described proggy post-punk thats chock full of guitar riffs and solos, all backed by a tight rhythm section.
