Actor, director and writer Bruce Campbell has crafted a career out of a certain kind of off-beat character. As an actor, he doesn’t disappear into a role, but rather imbues each with an almost ludicrous uniqueness, a deeply specific sense of self. This kind of interplay between the fantasy and reality of his existence is a perfect precursor to his alternate career as a memoirist.

Iowa Soul Fest rounds out Summer of the Arts for the fourth year

Johnson County Community ID Two-Year Anniversary Party on Monday
July 17, 2015 marked the first day that community IDs were available in Johnson County. In celebration of that milestone, and to encourage people to renew those first-issued children’s IDs, which expire on that date this year, the Johnson County Auditor’s Office is hosting a party at the administration building.

That gum you like: FilmScene celebrates the 25th anniversary of ‘Fire Walk With Me’ with rooftop showing
“I’ll see you again in 25 years,” promises Laura Palmer in the closing moments of cult classic TV series Twin Peaks. This year, creator David Lynch made good on that promise with a limited series on Showtime. And this weekend, FilmScene does their part with a rooftop showing of the prequel, 1992’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, which premiered at Cannes just over 25 years ago. The fun kicks off at 8 p.m.; screening starts at dusk. Tickets are $15.
