Comedy for Charity 6: Team Avery
The Mill — Friday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m.
Laughter is always a great medicine, and for people who want to help fight cancer, Comedy for Charity is a great way to help.
On Friday, Aug. 7, the sixth annual Comedy for Charity event at The Mill will showcase six area comedians with headliner Colin Ryan and returning host, Nathan Timmel. Proceeds will benefit Team Avery, named for local two-year-old Avery Flick, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of musculoskeletal cancer.
โWe always have something going on for fundraising,โ said Jessie Brown, Team Averyโs spokesperson. โComedy for Charity will help the Flick family with medical bills, travel expenses and daily living.โ
Brown said Averyโs mother, Heidi Flick, has taken two years of unpaid leave from her teaching career to care for Avery, all with the support of her husband, Justin, and Averyโs big sister, Peyton.

Fortunately, Avery recently completed a round of surgery and treatment in Houston, Texas but will still have a long road to recovery and further chemotherapy. Brown said the success of the surgery brings a lot of hope.
Timmel, who hosts the annual charity comedy showcase, said heโs happy to help support the Flick family — who are also his neighbors — in any way he can.
โTrying to cobble together some cash to give the family dealing with everything is the least I can do to help,โ Timmel said.
The show will also feature local comics Mike Lucas, Ava Cheyenne, Lucas Jones and Daniel Frana. A silent auction will also be held to support the cause.
โWe’ve been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community for this family,โ Brown said, โand we’re so grateful for their generosity and support.โ
