Jeff Tweedy & Spencer Tweedy

Englert Theatre — Monday, March 30 at 8 p.m.

Jeff Tweedy, founder and lead member of legendary band Wilco, and his son Spencer Tweedy head to the Englert tonight. Billing themselves as “Tweedy,” the duo will perform songs from their album, Sukierae, which debuted in 2014.

“Sukierae” is the nickname of Sue Miller, Jeff’s wife and Spencer’s mother, and was given to the album because of the large influence she had on the record. Miller was diagnosed with lymphoma just as the album was being put together, and the ups and downs of the journey can be heard in the songs.

Although a difficult process, Tweedy wanted the album to give off a positive vibe instead of a “premature eulogy.” With Spencer on the drums and Jeff on all other instruments (guitar, bass, keyboard, vox), the album is upbeat but gritty.

Uruguay native and New York City resident, Juan Wauters, will be joining the duo with his simple folk vibe and air of silliness. His second album Who Me?, which was made in Rock Island, Illinois, will be out in May of this year.
