Ten Tiny Performances

Ten diverse artists, on a 16 square foot stage, with only five minutes per act. While these may be 10 tiny performances, they add up to one big event.
Ten Tiny Performances (TTP) strives to defy expectations. Using an entire stage is too easy, so the artists confine themselves to a 4-by-4 foot space, encouraging the attendees to gather around as close as possible. Each act only has five minutes to get on, set-up, perform and clean up.
So that begs the question, what kind of performances can be done under these restrictions? The answer is simple: anything and everything. Dance, music, theater, sketches, poetry, and any other kinds of visual art.
TTP was created as a local Portland dance troupe in 2002, under the name Ten Tiny Dances, and has since evolved into a national phenomenon.
The Englert’s ensemble will include Iowa City talents like Esther Baker-Tarpaga and Olivier Tarpaga, who will be performing any number of their various dance projects. UI assistant professor Sarah Kanouse and poet Dora Malech, who many may know from the Iowa Youth Writing Program, will also take the stage.
Only 100 tickets will be sold for this “Intimate at the Englert” performance. Tickets are $12, and the show starts at 7 p.m. It is general admission, but there will be a limited number of chairs already set on stage for attendees to surround the tiny space, so come early.
