Word is this weekend may see the Midwest hit with a potentially record-breaking arctic blast, so pull out your winter jacket if you head to any of these events featured in today’s Weekender. Iowa City has two big ensembles visiting the Englert stage; Mariachi Herencia de México on Friday and Family Folk Machine on Sunday. Master fingerstyle guitar player Hiroya Tsukamoto plays at CSPS Hall in Cedar Rapids on Friday. At Roxxy Cedar Falls, Giggles for Good hosts a comedy showcase with all proceeds going to the Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice. And at xBk Live in Des Moines, dance-punk misfits Astro Brat celebrate their debut EP with Mr. Rood and Halfloves.
