Iowans have reported a new widespread phishing attack in their email inboxes. The subject line for the nefarious email is “Fwd: New Document Assigned ‘Marketing Proposal'” and the sender address it displays appears to make it come from someone the recipient knows.
Inside is a link to a pdf titled “Proposal#904-2025,” which should not be clicked. (The “proposal” contains a fake description of a nonexistent project for a new youth center, according to a recipient who clicked before becoming aware it’s a scam.)
The phishing attack has affected one Little Village staff account.
Anyone who receives the email should also avoid responding to it, because that can allow the phishers to access your address book and spam the phishing email to your own contacts.
