The 27th annual Northside Oktoberfest in 2023. — Drew Bulman/Little Village

The calendar may say Saturday belongs to September, but that won’t stop the 28th annual Northside Oktoberfest from bringing beer, brats and Bavaria-inspired family fun to Iowa City starting at 11 a.m. As is traditional, a stair truck from Eastern Iowa Airport will be there (Fly CID is a festival sponsor) for photo ops from above, and this year there will be more than 45 breweries and wineries providing samples to ticketholders.ย

Street closures for Oktoberfest start at 5 a.m. on Saturday. N Linn Street will be closed between the alley north of St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church to Bloomington Street. E Market Street between Dubuque and Gilbert will also be shut down, as will the alley between Market and Jefferson, between Linn and Gilbert streets.ย

The streets are expected to reopen late Saturday night.

Oktoberfest will also disrupt bus service on the Northside on Saturday. Inbound buses on 7-North Dodge and 11-Rochester routes will detour to Gilbert Street due the closure of Market Street. The stops at Jefferson Street and Linn, Market Street and Clinton, and Madison Street at the Iowa Memorial Union will be out of service on Saturday.
