On Saturday, hundreds of cities across the country will see people take to the streets for a No Kings Day of Peaceful Action to protest President Trump’s policies. According to national organizers, there will be more than 2,500 No Kings Day events nationwide. Republican leaders have been denouncing this protest in even stronger terms than they did the No Kings Day rallies in June.
Last week, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson called the No Kings rally scheduled to take place on the National Mall in Washington D.C. “a ‘Hate America’ rally.” The Louisiana Republican dismissed the idea that the protesters are average Americans, saying, “It’s all the pro-Hamas wing and the antifa people, they’re all coming out.” Johnson even went so far as to assert the upcoming protest is responsible for the shutdown of the federal government continuing: “It’s being told to us that [Democrats] won’t be able to reopen the government until after that rally, ‘cause they can’t face their rabid base.”

It’s unlikely that Johnson’s fantasy version of No Kings Day will do anything to dampen enthusiasm for the almost 40 scheduled rallies in Iowa, although the forecasts for rain on Saturday in parts of the state might. No Kings Day events will be held in big cities and small towns, from the Mississippi to the Missouri, on Saturday.

For the first No Kings Day in June, award-winning cartoonist Dan Perkins — a.k.a. Tom Tomorrow, the artist behind This Modern World — created a No Kings Day illustration. (This Modern World is featured in every issue of Little Village, as well as a lot of other publications.)
“[M]y gift. print it, poster it, do what you want,” Perkins wrote on Bluesky when he first posted the image. It can be downloaded from his Bluesky feed.
