We Butter the Bread with Butter
Blue Moose Tap House – Friday, Feb. 21 at 4:30 p.m.
Not-so-popular metalcore bands come to Iowa City all the time, but Friday’s show at the Blue Moose Tap House should be truly unique. How so, you ask? Because Germany’s We Butter The Bread With Butter (WBTBWB) are headlining, along with LIONS LIONS, Honour Crest, DoppelgängeR and Kings.
Behold, the live experience:
With a name like WBTBWB, you might guess these guys are a strange group. And you’d be right. Hailing from Lübben, this German quartet plays an extremely aggressive fusion of deathcore and dubstep. Their songs, usually sung in German, are often odd and silly, including over-the-top covers of Bob Marley’s “I Shot The Sheriff” and various nursery rhymes. However, their non-English set shouldn’t be an issue, since deathcore-growled vocals are near impossible to understand as is.
WBTBWB will not be the only band to incorporate electronics with metal. LIONS LIONS, from Boston, Honour Crest, from Virginia Beach, and Kings, from the Quad Cities, all heavily base their metal off electronics. LIONS LIONS and Kings are heavier, resembling Asking Alexandria, whereas Honour Crest has more of a post-hardcore style, similar to Emery. WBTBWB also won’t be the only band singing in a foreign language. DoppelgängeR has thrived in their native Moscow since 1994, and play more of a goth-rock as opposed to metalcore.
Metal plus electronics (with foreign languages thrown in the mix) will be the theme Friday night, making for a refreshing spin from your traditional English metalcore.
