Little Village is dedicated to representing the subjects of our stories fairly and accurately.
Stories should be as complete and accurate as possible, with triple-checked facts, multiple sources and diverse views. Photo captions should represent the context of the image and its relevance to the story.
Photographs must not be staged or posed (excepting portraits); editing should be kept to standard adjustments such as cropping or adjusting levels. Any intervention by Little Village visually should be clear and unmistakable, such as cropping out a subject and putting them on a graphical background.
Little Village writers should not cover any event, individual or organization that they are personally involved with. If coverage is necessary, the piece will be reassigned to an unconnected writer. Staff connections to an event, individual or organization that is covered should be noted in an editor’s note at the end of the article, regardless of who wrote it.
Trading on coverage:
Writers may not take any gifts, receive any benefits or gain access to an event in exchange for coverage unless permitted by an editor. Common allowances include tickets to a theater performance for review purposes or receipt of a review copy of a book.
Little Village staff may not take on any freelance work that is in direct competition with Little Village, unless it is approved by an editor.
