Guns, fascism, infighting and couch-surfing: Researcher Serena Tarr recounts a year studying the alt-right

On March 4, 2018, after following around Richard Spencer and his alt-right entourage for months, Serena Tarr found herself in Michigan for the Foundation for the Marketplace of Ideas conference, organized by Kyle Bristow, the white nationalist attorney who used to sue colleges that rejected requests for Spencer to speak. But due to public pressure and possibly death threats, Bristow backed out at the last minute, and the “conference” was relocated to a house in Ann Arbor. Tarr followed.

Johnson County Auditor’s Office warns about misleading information on voting

The Johnson County Auditor’s Office warned on Tuesday that incorrect information about voting is being circulated. “Our office has received reports that voters have received absentee ballot requests which have incorrect return addresses,” the auditor’s office said in an email. “If you get an unsolicited absentee request by mail, make sure the return address is to the correct county auditor before mailing it in.

Election Day in Iowa City: Learn about the candidates and what you need to be able to vote

It’s Election Day in Iowa City, and Little Village has been reporting on the sole race on today’s ballot, since the Iowa City Council voted on Aug. 3 to hold a special election to fill the at-large seat left vacant when Kingsley Botchway resigned. ID, oaths and polling locations: Where and how to vote in the Iowa City special election on Tuesday

The special election to fill the vacant at-large seat on the Iowa City Council will be held on Tuesday. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters must go to their designated polling place to cast a ballot on Tuesday (in-person early voting for the election at the Johnson County Auditor’s Office ends at 5:30 p.m. on Monday). Anyone unsure of where to vote can finding the right location using the polling place look-up tool on the auditor’s website.
