How I got involved with LV
Schooling and background there – content wrangler
-
Role at LV Complicated…
Background – first few years, then coming back in January with new vision for relaunch.
– new content
– emphasis on web as destination, not just repository
-
Typical day
-Wake up, clock is ticking
-Panic, oh shit
-Hungry to beat out someone, anyone
-Lack of resources
-Solicit/edit/head/publish/tease
Why?
Because we are TINY, and admittedly, there are a lot of things that the ICPL does that we don’t do and vice versa. THere are a lot of things we can learn from each other. Excited about this chance to speak with you because of our overlap and because we both, in the end, have similar goals – engage readers in our brand (define brand) while providing them with both information they need, and information they want. Big distinction.

WRITING
IC small, lot of you probably have been published more than I havae. lot of you probably have more experience. I spend about 50-60 hours a week thinking about this stuff.
-Audience
-Adjusting style – DO use contractions, DO refer to the reader as you
-Utility over prose – gorgeous writing doesn’t mean good writing – long, self-indulgent, beautifully written =/ good writing. I used to think I was a great writer when i was in college
-
Visualizing/Packaging
-Routine of checking sources/regularly updated feeds
-Facilitate that through bookmarks, google alerts, filters
-knowing where to get media you can use
-5 minute phone call = more than 20 email thread – quick call to secure permission
-Don’t overthink- visuaulize the content — its head, its tone, the tease
Social media
-Later in the week – THURS/FRI in particular
-Introduction to…Beginners guide to…
-Numbers, especially to lead off
NO – “How to find the perfect book”
Yes – “Find the perfect book”
-Active words, short, scannable,
-Tact – reader/internet sees through shit. BS doesn’t go far, and the web is savvy
