Weather the Winter herbal care workshop

Public Space One (120 N. Dubuque St.) — Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1:30 p.m. ($15-25)

Public Space One (PS1) will host an herbal care workshop, “Weather the Winter,” on Saturday in their kitchen at the Wesley Center.

Instructor Stephany Hoffelt will show how natural preparations can bolster immune function and help bodies stay healthy to withstand the cold and flu season. Hoffelt, an herbal educator and consultant who teaches at Kirkwood Community College, will lead a series of herbal prep classes this winter at PS1.

“Weather the Winter” will feature an elderberry-apple spice syrup and a phytochemical-filled vegetable broth. Hoffelt said if time permits, she would demonstrate the recipes for throat spray and an aromatic chest rub. She will also have samples to try and instructions on-hand for students to take home.

“Most of the herbs I work with can be grown here in your own garden, and these preparations are simple and relatively inexpensive to prepare,” she said.

The class will take place on Saturday, Jan. 9 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. and is offered on a sliding scale, starting at $15. Register by contacting kitchen@publicspaceone.com.
