The Oscars: Where will you be watching?

The OscarsThe Oscars are set to air on ABC at 7:30 p.m. this Sunday, and Iowa City film aficionados have a couple of opportunities to make a night of it.

Englert Theatre is kicking off an Oscars viewing party at 6:00 p.m. for those looking to mingle, complete with costume contests, free appetizers and a cash bar. Dubbed Hollywood Live! and hosted by Chris Okiishi, the event is free with a suggested $10 donation. Those looking to participate in the various festivities take note:

Hollywood Live! Contests

All attendees will be invited to participate in voting for the following categories:

Best Dressed Guest: wherein guests imagine they are attending the actual event and dress accordingly. Prize: $100 Dinner for two at Joseph’s Steakhouse, Englert Series show for two at the theater, and a one night stay for two at hotelVetro.

Best Costumed Guest: wherein guests imagine they are characters from this year’s films and dress accordingly. 2 winners will receive one of two prizes: $50 gift certificate for Saloon or $50 gift certificate to G Spot Hair Design

Best Movie-Themed Food: Guests are invited to contribute additional dishes to the spread of Bread Garden Market catering by making their own movie-themed food. Examples of previous winners include… Hilary Pigs in a Swank-et, Michael Clark Duncan Donuts, and The Lord of the Onion Rings. Prize: $25 gift certificate for Bread Garden Market

Guess the Winners Contest: Pick up your ballot at the FilmScene table. All guests are invited to “play along” by completing their own ballots. Prize: The winner who gets the most winners correct will win at $100 Visa Gift Card!

Looking for something different? Bijou Theatre is hosting its own viewing party for those looking for a place to relax and enjoy the ceremony alongside fellow movie lovers. This event begins at 6:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
