Beach House

The Englert Theatre — Sunday, August 14 at 7 p.m.

The Englert Theatre has just announced that it will be welcoming Baltimore dream pop band Beach House to the stage on Sunday, August 14 at 7 p.m. Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally have been performing and recording together as Beach House since 2004; their October, 2015 album Thank Your Lucky Stars is their sixth studio album, recorded simultaneously with their 5th, Depression Cherry, which was released that May.

Legrand’s ethereal yet grounded vocals are a 21st century evolution of the sounds of Mazzy Star, and the band’s almost whimsical musical arrangements are entrancing.

Tickets, priced at $27.50, go on sale to the general public on Friday, May 13. Friends of the Englert can purchase tickets now, with their presale code.

Genevieve Trainor lives in Iowa City, Iowa. Passions include heavy music, hoppy beer, and hidden rooms.

  1. Here’s an interesting quote from Alex from 2010, QUOTE: “I think the main thing that Victoria is super-psyched about shaking is the Mazzy Star thing.” However, aside from Alex’s slide guitar on some songs which some times sounds echo-y of Mazzy Star’s David Roback, their sound, and Victoria’s singing, is rather different than Mazzy Star’s, imo. What they DO have in common in great measure though, for me, is an emotive quality (communicating or evoking emotional feeling) that few other bands can deliver for me. As my cat likes to say, QUOTE, “meow-wow.”
