Iowa City Weekender: April 22-25

Posted by Weekender | Apr 22, 2010 | Arts & Entertainment, The Weekender

Greetings, Weekenders!

Are you ready for Riverfest? Yes, it’s already time for another big music festival, and this one’s got tons of daytime stuff for the whole family too! Which reminds me: Please join my cause! If the IC City Council wants to make the bars 21 only, don’t you think they should be required to provide bumper cars for everyone else, year round? Me too! Do your part by calling IC Mayor Matt Hayek today! Find all his contact info here

Anyway, Riverfest is April 21-25th, events are all over downtown, and there’s tons of live music, carnival games and rides, food and fun for the whole family.

ALSO OF NOTE… Lecture: Lady Pink | IMU Black Box Theater | 7:30 | FREE

Lady Pink, one of the first female graffiti artists to gain prominence in the NYC scene in the 80’s and 90’s, is in town and wants to hang with you, tonight at the IMU.  Go say wassup, and see if you can’t find something of her‘s to spray paint!  j.k. I’m personally totally down with tagging.  It’s your city!

FRIDAY

Tales from the Writers’ Room | Riverside Theater | 7:30 pm (Friday and Saturday) | $20

Cedar Rapids SPT Theatre Company brings an evening of live music juxtaposed with a collection of monologues and sketches from the past two years of Tales From the Writer’s Room series.

SATURDAY

Riverbank Art Fair | Near Hancher Auditorium (Rain location : IMU) | 10 am-5 pm | FREE

If our April issue has made you and your house thirsty for lots of for-sale visual art, hit up the Riverbank Art Fair, running 10-5 Saturday and Sunday.

SATURDAY NIGHT Local reggae superstars Public Property, whose members have largely parted ways and moved on to new projects, get together this Saturday at the Yacht Club.  The $10 admission might complicate things, but Public Props at the ICYC is generally an easy good time.

Have a great weekend!
