Good for You
Greg Ginn and Mike Vallely of Good for You

Good for you, Greg Ginn & The Royal We, Alex Body | April 16, 6:00 p.m. | Gabe’s | $8-10

Tonight at Gabe’s, you can catch Black Flag front man Greg Ginn alongside Mike Vallely and Alex Body for a night of fist-waving punk and electronic rock.

Throughout the last three decades, Ginn has played a vital role in shaping the West Coast punk scene. Perhaps most commonly recognized as the front man for the iconic hardcore punk group Black Flag, Ginn is also the founder and proprietor of Solid State Transmitters, an independent record label–created in 1978–that would go on to feature such influential bands as Hüsker Dü, The Minutement and Meat Puppets.

Tonight, Ginn will take the stage under his one-man-band project titled The Royal We, combining his love of jazz with more modern, distortion-heavy electronica. Iowa City’s own electronica-extraordinaire Alex Body will be opening for Ginn, marking his second big performance in as many weeks after an exciting opening for Future Rock earlier this month.

Afterwards, Ginn will turn off the keyboard, crank up the distortion and join vocalist Mike Vallely on stage as the newly-formed Good for You, a two-piece project praised for its monstrous blues licks and British heavy metal-inspired song structure.

Tonight’s performance comes just one week into Ginn and Vallely’s “No Plan B Tour,” which kicked off last week in celebration of their recently released debut album, Life is Too Short to Not Hold a Grudge (listen).

Check out Greg Ginn, Mike Vallely and Alex Body tonight at 6:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:00 p.m.
