This has been a great week around here. We launched the new littlevillagemag.com, started hearing all the awesome news about Mission Creek 2012, met with Andre Perry and Hugh Ferrer to pick out a Hot Tin Roof winner for January, and even made it out to a house show last night at Brendan Records, where I finally got to see Big Box. Phil Ochs (Star City) was also there for a great set, and he brought a limited run of Vol III of Current Science Illustrated. This is an amazing piece of work that he and Daniel Peterson have been working on ALL YEAR. The whole comic is linocut, with darn near 100 intricate frames, all black on white paper, incredibly sharply done, and bound in a handmade paper cover. The books were specially priced $5 last night (such hospitality, one more reason to go to more house shows), and they will soon be on sale at White Rabbit, where Phil said the price would go up to something outrageous like $8. Whether you know Phil and Dan or not, this book is highly collectible.
Now, as for the weekend, I have a very important message to deliver from Drew, of The Wandering Bears. This will be great news to all their friends and fans of indie pop here in I.C.
So, hey, congratulations graduates and all that, and I hope you all enjoy the weekend!
Here’s Drew’s message to you-oo-oo:
The Wandering Bears are playing a show at The Blue Moose this Friday the 16th, as Samantha is back on break from her Oxford musicology program and David Earl is back from his Caroline Smith and The Goodnight Sleeps tour. The Bears are playing with Dewi Sant, Joey Ryan and The Inks, and Consolation Champ–all Minnesota groups.
Check out all these bands, and if you are in town, head to the Blue Moose tonight for what is sure to be a jolly reunion show.
